Xiaomi is expected to release its new Mi 5X and the MIUI 9- an Android custom UI on a scheduled event on the July 26th in China. However, Xiaomi today posted on its forums to offer a preview of what will take place at the next event. The post unveils the overall look of the upcoming Mi 5X. Xiaomi also officially confirms these leaked images a few days ago.
The Xiaomi Mi 5X will come with a close resemblance to other Xiaomi popular smartphones. The Mi 5X features a metallic unibody, with plastic antenna lines placed around the edges. The phone utilizes with two cameras at the back, as well as a small bump.
Besides the Mi 5X, Xiaomi has also previewed some new features on the MIUI 9 version on the forum post. Here are some typical changes
Changes Lockscreen Shortcuts
Some devices in the Mi lineup come with a front fingerprint scanner, so the company is shuffling the functionality reserved for long press on the Home Button. With the new MIUI 9, when swiping right from the lockscreen, it will appear the used shortcuts sincluding Mi Home, Mi Remote, Mi Pay and Torch.
It’s unclear if these shortcuts can be modified, but there is many chance that MIUI 9 allows to customize them as the user liking.

Split Screen Functionality
Split screen functionality is a feature introduced in Android 7 Nougat, and it will be brought into this version so that the Mi Max lineup can work best.
The forum post also confirmed the Mi devices to support the split screen feature, including the Mi 6, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X. More information on the listing of compatible devices will be released later.
The first batch of eligible phones to get the MIUI 9 beta are the Mi 6, the Redmi Note 4 running Qualcomm chip and the Redmi Note 4X. To taste this update, users would need to apply as a beta tester and must have the supported device. The official rollout of MIUI 9 will be released soon.
