After a lot of leaks in previous weeks, the Xiaomi Mi 5X is finally official. The handset has now been introduced at an event in China today. The Mi 5X is the latest low-cost and high-power Xiaomi’s smartphone. The device sports a 5.5-inch, Full-HD display with a 2.5D curved-glass on top and runs on the Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset, paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB inbuilt storage. At the back of the phone, there is a 12MP dual-camera setup, one is the wide-angle lens and another is the telephoto lens, along with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. While on the front comes with a 5MP sensor.
The Mi 5X will be shipped with Android 7.1 Nougat based on MIUI V9 verion. In terms of audio, Xiaomi sates that its Mi 5X will utilize a standalone amplifier coupled with a “DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm” that can bring a better sound experience when using headphones. The Mi 5X will also support the micro SD slot, a fingerprint reader placed below the rear camera, and 3,080 mAh battery capacity, USB Type-C charging port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The new phone will go on sale in Black, Gold and Rose Gold color options for about US$222 from August 1st in Chinese market. Although there are already more than 800,000 people that have registered to purchase one, there doesn’t have anything else particularly striking about the handset except for the suped-up audio and camera features.
Xiaomi has clearly done its strategy very well to come back to the top position in terms of smartphone sales. However, is it continuing to dazzle?
