Samsung Galaxy S5 Still Be Most Popular Device in USA as of February 2017

Samsung has finally its duo Galaxy S8 and S8+ reached the hands of consumers, and they received a lot of positive feedback. The device will likely be a common choice for consumers in the near future. Samsung’s flagships have achieved great success over the years and despite the pressure from other rivals such as Apple or Huawei, Samsung’s phones are still an excellent option for users who want a good hardware on the market.

According to a recently report from Kantar World Panel, surprisingly, Samsung’s most popular smartphone in the U.S.A is the Galaxy S5 flagship introduced from 2014. As of February 2017, the Galaxy S5 takes up 15.6% of active Samsung smartphones in the U.S. The second rank is followed by the Galaxy S7 with 11.5% and the Galaxy S6 ranks at third with 11.4%. The Galaxy S7 Edge just stops at 5.8%, so if it’s combined with the S7 as they are the same generation, the S7 and S7 Edge would be led to the most popular Samsung devices in U.S.A.

The popularity of Galaxy S5 is unforeseen as this was one of the poorer flagship devices from Samsung in terms of shipments. Samsung only shipped 12 million units in the first three months, which was even much lower than the total Galaxy S4’s shipments.

The report also shows that about 28% of Samsung’s users want to upgrade to a newer Samsung smartphone. Of that 28%, 52% choose the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, while 10% opt for a Galaxy S6. The remainder selected between 48 devices to upgrade to, showing that although the latest flagships receive most of the attention, Samsung’s offer in the U.S. remains very diverse and profitable.

20% of Galaxy S7 owners said they intended to upgrade to the latest S8 within a year, while this figure for S6 owners is 40%. A good 55% of S5 owners planned to upgrade as well, but that means 45% still want to use their S5. All these people prefer the functionality of the S5, which is surely an interesting case on consumer preference.
